Owls of the World
Most owls are only nocturnal and are often difficult to find and photograph. In forests they are often partly obscured by foliage.
People are fascinated by owls because of their incredible binocular vision, fantastic hearing and their ability to rotate their heads almost entirely around.
The two best places I found to photograph owls are the South African Kalahari and the forests of Finland although you definitely need a guide in Finland to find the owls.
My first trip to the Kalahari was in 2005 when the Park was quiet and owls could be found in the trees in the rest areas.
I have also found the dry areas in NW Costa Rica and central areas of Florida were good for owls.
Please enjoy the photos. All the owls are wild and not in Birds of Prey centres. This includes the UK owls.
