Parrots and Macaws of the World
Parrots and macaws belong to a large family of birds which also includes parakeets and cockatoos. They all have a thick hooked beak and claws were two toes face forward and two backward. Macaws are larger with long tail feathers and a bare patch of skin on the face.
Macaw photos were taken in the Pantanal area of Brazil with a few in Costa Rica. Parrots and parakeets were photographed in Costa Rica. The family are difficult to photograph in flight as they are very fast flyers.
Parrot populations are diminishing and all macaws are endangered. This is mainly because of habitat loss due to deforestation and also the illegal pet trade.
