Toucans of the World
Toucans family includes Toucanets and Aracaris. Toucans are the largest in the group and Toco Toucan is the largest. Their bodies are short and compact. The tail is rounded and varies in length – short on a Keel Billed Toucan to long on a Collared Aracari.
The colourful and large bill which can measure more than half the length of the body is the outstanding feature of a toucan. The bill helps in eating fruit and can get deeper into holes because of a very long tongue.
Toucans are Resident Birds and do not migrate. Toucans live mainly in forests in Central America and South America. I have photographed them in Costa Rica, Brazil and in Ecuador.
